Minka is the new project from Min Kym, the internationally renowned concert violinist and author of 'Gone', the remarkable story of the theft of her beloved 1696 Stradivarius.
A virtuoso violinist, and the youngest ever foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music at 16, Min moves all that hear her perform. However, after processing the devastating theft of her priceless instrument, Min, with a replacement violin in hand, knew she didn't want to return to the concert stage playing the same repertoire. A chance meeting with award-winning film and TV composer Dru Masters paved the way for a fresh start and something completely new.
As alumni of the Purcell School of Music, their similar musical backgrounds, along with a shared passion for movie soundtracks, strange harmonics and a meticulous eye for detail, has proven to be a winning combination. Their differing paths have brought them full circle, and their unique collaboration has resulted in 'A Heart in Winter' - their first EP, full of lush soundscapes and emotional storytelling.
Beyond their first release, the Minka project continues to expand into new spaces - Min and Dru have written the soundtrack for the latest season of Channel 4 drama 'Before We Die', and are developing a ballet suite about the life of legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn.
